Lumin
DIY PCB recreating the BBE Sonic Stomp - reverse-engineered Sonic Maximizer with state-variable filtering.
Aion FX from Des Moines, IA has helped guitarists build studio-quality effects since 2011. They excel at reverse-engineering proprietary circuits that were never meant to be cloned.
The Lumin is NOT a direct clone but a reverse-engineered expansion of the BBE Sonic Maximizer 482i/882i rack unit and Sonic Stomp pedal (late 1980s). The originals used BBE's patented NJM2150AD chip - the Lumin recreates its function using discrete components, adding a midrange control absent from the original.
The Sonic Maximizer uses state variable filtering to separate low, mid, and high frequencies for independent processing before recombining them. The result is enhanced clarity and punch without traditional EQ artifacts. The Aion version makes this studio processor trick accessible in pedal format with expanded control.
