Kilobyte 2000
Lo-fi delay using PT2399 chip with +21dB boost preamp and Havoc oscillation switch.
The Caroline Guitar Company Kilobyte pioneered the 'lo-fi delay' category by combining an analog dry path with a bandwidth-reduced PT2399 digital delay chip originally designed for karaoke machines. The result is delay with character.
The Kilobyte offers over 500ms of delay time with a +21dB boost/overdrive preamp driving the delay. Modulation circuitry designed with Jack DeVille adds warble and wobble. The Havoc momentary footswitch triggers controlled, high-pass filtered oscillation.
Controls include Blend, Time, Summation (repeats), and Drive. The Kilobyte became many players' 'gateway drug to boutique' thanks to its unique sound and reasonable price. Hand-built in Columbia, South Carolina.
