Overdriver

Colorsound, a subsidiary of Sola Sound London, created some of the most influential overdrive and boost pedals of the 1970s. The Overdriver emerged in 1971 as an updated version of the Power Boost, dropping from 18V to standard 9V operation while maintaining the same beloved circuit.

The Overdriver delivers a distinctly scooped tone with fat low end and glassy top, providing transparent boost that transforms into smooth overdrive when pushed. The silicon transistor circuit became iconic thanks to David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, and Marc Bolan, each using it to craft their signature sounds.

With bass and treble controls offering wide tonal flexibility, the Overdriver works exceptionally well with tube amps, adding dimension and body to single-channel designs. It can function as a treble booster, clean boost, or pushed into fuzzy territory at higher gain settings.
