Generation Loss
Lo-fi VHS tape degradation effect with wow, flutter, and noise artifacts.
Cooper FX became synonymous with lo-fi effects, and the Generation Loss is their flagship design. Tom Cooper created effects that captured the sound of degraded media, earning a devoted following before joining Chase Bliss Audio.
The Generation Loss recreates the artifacts of worn VHS tapes: random pitch fluctuations (wow and flutter), high and low frequency loss, white noise, and sample rate reduction. The effect transforms any signal into something that sounds like it was pulled from an old cassette or videotape.
With controls for Wow, Flutter, Noise, Generation (sample rate), and high/low pass filters, the pedal offers deep control over the degradation. It became one of the most sought-after boutique pedals, eventually evolving into a collaboration with Chase Bliss Audio.
