Hoof

EarthQuaker Devices released the Hoof in 2007 as their first production pedal. It established the company and remains their flagship fuzz.

The circuit is based on the green Russian Big Muff but uses a hybrid of germanium and silicon transistors. NOS germanium transistors are hand-matched for consistency. The result is smoother, tighter fuzz than standard Muffs with better note definition.

The Shift control adjusts the midrange. Clockwise scoops mids, counterclockwise boosts them. Fuzz, Level, and Tone complete the controls. 20th Anniversary edition returned to original VOS specs.

The fuzz that started EQD, still on pedalboards from basements to Madison Square Garden.
