Fractal's Virtual Pedalboard crams the Axe-Fx III effects engine into a stompbox-sized unit with four footswitches. Pick any four effects from a library of 400+, including 69 drive models, 78 reverbs, 128+ delays, and 16 compressors. Latency sits at 1.2ms.

Each of the 104 presets holds four effect blocks with four scenes and four channels per block, so one preset can cover an entire set. An onboard noise gate and 10-band master EQ run outside the four slots. Blocks 2-4 support parallel routing for more complex signal chains. Gapless switching between presets, scenes, and channels keeps things seamless live.

I/O covers stereo analog in/out, S/PDIF digital I/O at 24-bit/48kHz, USB-C audio (4x4 channels) with MIDI-over-USB, dedicated 3.5mm MIDI in/out, and two expression/switch jacks. A mono four-cable-method mode integrates with traditional amp setups. The VP4-Edit software handles deep editing and preset management from a computer.

Firmware 3 added an IR Player block with 256 onboard impulse responses, next-gen pitch shifting, and Scene MIDI Sync. Runs on a Cortex A15 + C66x DSP. Not a volume pedal despite the name.
