Microcosm
Granular looper that exploded in 2020. 11 algorithms with 44 variations for glitches, textures, and ambient loops.
Hologram Electronics was formed in 2016 by musicians Ryan Schaefer and Jason Campbell. Based in Knoxville, TN, they build experimental digital effects that transform your playing into ambient pads, pitch-shifted patterns, and musical glitches. Microcosm became a breakout hit in 2020.
The Microcosm samples your input and rearranges it through 11 granular algorithms with 44 preset variations. Cascading micro-loops can be locked to tap tempo, diffused into glacial textures, or woven into drones. Built-in modulation, four-mode stereo reverb, resonant low-pass filter, and a one-minute phrase looper add further sculpting.
Five knobs, a central effect selector, and Activity button make hands-on tweaking intuitive. MIDI I/O enables preset recall and parameter control. Expression pedal input allows real-time manipulation. Requires 9V DC center-negative supply with >450mA current.
