SD9 Sonic Distortion
9 series hard-clipping distortion with mid-scoop EQ. More DS-1 than Tube Screamer. Scott Henderson approved.
Ibanez is a Japanese guitar and accessory manufacturer owned by Hoshino Gakki. Their vintage effects from the late 70s and early 80s are highly sought after by collectors and tone purists.
The SD9 Sonic Distortion was produced 1982-1985 alongside the TS-9 but uses a completely different circuit. Despite marketing as a "heavier Tube Screamer," it's actually closer to a Boss DS-1 with hard-clipping diodes and mid-scooped EQ.
Distortion, Tone, and Level controls. The Toshiba TA75558P op-amp and Big Muff-style tone stack create its distinctive character. Used by Scott Henderson and John Shanks. The SD9M reissue adds gain boost and midrange switch.
