Sweet Honey Overdrive (Handwired)
Hand-wired version of the BJF Honey Bee-based overdrive. Point-to-point construction, same touch-sensitive circuit.
Born from a collaboration between Mad Professor and pedal legend Björn Juhl, the Sweet Honey Overdrive is based on his acclaimed Honey Bee circuit. The design uses an OP275 op-amp with three LED clipping diodes, producing touch-sensitive low-to-medium gain overdrive that responds to pick attack and pickup strength.
The Focus control is the secret weapon here. Turn it counterclockwise for mellower tones with less distortion; clockwise adds treble boost and earlier breakup. The sweet spot sits around 11 o'clock for most players. Unlike Tube Screamers, this circuit stays open and uncompressed with no mid-hump.
Input impedance of 260K places a deliberate load on pickups for smoother tone. Current draw is just 5mA. Runs on 7.5-18V, with internal switching between true bypass and buffered modes. The circuit excels at overdriving already-distorted amps or adding dynamics-controlled grit to clean sounds.
Hand-wired version features point-to-point construction in Finland. Sonically identical to the PCB version but with boutique build quality.
