Duke of Tone
Official Analog Man collaboration based on King of Tone. Three modes, $149 without the five-year wait.
The Duke of Tone represents MXR's official collaboration with Analog Man, bringing the King of Tone sound to market without the legendary five-year waiting list. Designer Mike Piera personally tested and matched all components to the King of Tone specs.
Based on the Prince of Tone (single-channel King of Tone), it offers three modes: OD mode with diode clipping for natural, airy drive; Distortion mode with harder clipping for more compression; and Boost mode for clean volume increase.
Volume, Tone, and Drive controls shape the sound. An internal trim pot adjusts treble cut/boost. Runs at 9V or 18V for extra headroom. The Marshall Bluesbreaker-based circuit that made the King of Tone legendary is captured here.
At $149, two Duke of Tones cost less than a used King of Tone. A/B testing shows nearly identical results with slightly different knob positions. Premier Gear Award winner.
