The Mini represents smallsound/bigsound's philosophy distilled into a compact format—cascading JFET gain stages that produce full-range, amp-like overdrive tones rather than relying on traditional clipping diodes. This circuit architecture results in one of the most gorgeous JFET drives available, with exceptional touch sensitivity and dynamic response that reacts to playing dynamics like a tube amplifier.
The five controls work together in highly interactive ways. Gain knob simultaneously controls two gain stages for extremely wide range from pristine clean boost through overdrive to saturated fuzz. Bass control is pre-gain passive high-pass filter—less bass yields cleaner tones, while more bass drives the gain stages harder for increased saturation. Treble control is passive low-pass filter for taming harsh frequencies.
Bias control is the Mini's secret weapon, essentially a voltage starve that sets operating voltage of JFET stages. With optimal voltage around noon, turning counterclockwise yields broken-up, saggy, lo-fi low-wattage amp tones, while clockwise provides more headroom, clarity, and hi-fi chime. Available in multiple color variants (Black, Red, Shell Pink, Silver) and Top Jacks mounting option—all same circuit with different aesthetics.
