The Royal Overdrive uses an all-analog solid-state circuit with over 400 high-quality components (approximately 25 times more than some popular vintage overdrives). The completely isolated internal power circuit operates across a wide 9-18V DC range, with 18V recommended for optimal headroom and performance. Center-negative DC input accepts standard pedal power supplies.

The control layout features two toggle switches and a dedicated mid boost footswitch. The first toggle selects between A and B voicing modes, while the second offers three Bright settings, providing six preset tonal combinations to match different amplifiers. The mid boost footswitch enables instant rhythm-to-lead transitions with natural frequency emphasis. Designed to work with both passive pickups (humbuckers and single-coils) and active pickups.

Housed in a robust enclosure measuring 188 × 120 × 54 mm. The Royal Overdrive V1 has been out of production, replaced by Version 2 with updated features.
