Black Russian
Smoothest Big Muff variant—refined fuzz with great low-end response, less sustain than American cousins.
The Black Russian reproduces the Electro-Harmonix Black Russian Big Muff from the 1990s, prized among bassists and guitarists for its smooth, refined fuzz character with excellent low-end response. This is the smoothest, softest, least sustaining of the Muff variants, featuring a beautifully slightly muted tonality at its core—very obviously a Big Muff, but a gentler take versus the more strident Triangle and Ram's Head varieties.
Features Volume, Tone, and Sustain controls, plus a 3-position mid-range switch (Boost/Stock/Flat) that the original EHX lacked. This addition provides tonal flexibility for cutting through mixes while maintaining the Black Russian's signature smooth character. Hand-wired construction with through-hole components, 3PDT true bypass, Neutrik jacks, and powder-coated enclosure. Requires 9V DC via 2.1mm Boss-style jack. Part of Vick Audio's Tau Classic Reproduction Series, built in the USA until the company ceased production in 2023.
