Azimuthe
DIY PCB for building a Hermida Zendrive clone - the 2004 stripped-down Screamer with Dumble-like character.
Aion FX from Des Moines, IA has helped guitarists build studio-quality effects since 2011. They specialize in making expensive boutique circuits accessible through well-documented DIY recreations.
The Azimuthe faithfully recreates the Hermida Zendrive (2004), later acquired by Lovepedal. The circuit is essentially a stripped-down Tube Screamer with a standard clipping section followed by a variable treble cut and buffer - but the magic is in the specific voicing.
Designed to emulate Dumble amp overdrive characteristics, the Zendrive became a favorite among players seeking that elusive smooth, compressed lead tone. Robben Ford famously used the original, helping establish its reputation as the pedal that gets closest to that holy grail Dumble sound without the six-figure price tag.
