Aurora
DIY PCB for building an MXR Dyna Comp or Ross Compressor clone - the 1972 CA3080 squish machine.
Aion FX from Des Moines, IA has helped guitarists build studio-quality effects since 2011. Their designs often improve upon vintage circuits with modern component substitutions and reliability enhancements.
The Aurora recreates the MXR Dyna Comp (1972) and Ross Compressor (1978). The Dyna Comp pioneered the CA3080 OTA chip for guitar compression, while the Ross improved it with better power filtering and lower noise. Both deliver that classic squashed sustain heard on countless recordings.
This version upgrades the obsolete CA3080 to the modern LM13700 and reduces output ripple distortion. The result maintains the character of the originals while offering improved reliability and noise performance - essential for a circuit that amplifies every imperfection in your signal chain.
