E2 Headrush
Delay/looper with tape echo simulation, 4-head outputs, and up to 23.8 seconds of recording time.
The Akai E2 Headrush is a versatile delay and looping workstation that became a cult favorite among live performers. It combines three distinct modes: a 16-bit digital delay with times from 0.5ms to 23.8 seconds, a tape echo simulation with four virtual heads and individual outputs for each, and a looper with unlimited overdubs. The tape echo mode is particularly unique—each virtual tape head has its own 1/4" output, allowing complex multi-amp or mixer routing for lush, spacious delay textures. The looper offers real-time overdubbing with tap-tempo control, making it ideal for building layers on the fly. Popularized by artists like KT Tunstall, Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead), and Graham Coxon (Blur), the E2 Headrush earned a reputation for its intuitive operation and musical character. Its no-frills approach to looping—without reverse effects or drum machines—made it a go-to
