Original
Astro Tone
Recreation of the rare 1960s Sam Ash/Astrotone fuzz. Silicon, less compressed than a Fuzz Face.
Based on the rare 1966-68 Sam Ash Fuzz Box and Astrotone Fuzz from New York's Astro Amp company. Analog Man's version launched in 2010 using original Fairchild silicon transistors, flat pill-shaped with gold-plated leads. Over 3,000 units built with original stock before switching to same-type replacements in 2023.
Volume, Fuzz, and Tone provide more tonal range than the typical two-knob fuzz. Less compressed than a Fuzz Face with something between fuzz and distortion character. Cleans up well with the guitar volume knob and works better at lower volumes into smaller amps than most germanium fuzzes.
Draws 3mA at 9V with true bypass. Negative ground (standard center-negative power). Players include Luther Dickinson and Gary Clark Jr.
