BC-2 Combo Drive
Overdrive capturing the sound of a cranked combo amp. Delivers smooth breakup with responsive touch dynamics.
The BC-2 Combo Drive aims to capture the sound of a small combo amp pushed to its limits, with the sag, compression, and breakup character that come from an amplifier working hard. Released in 2011 as part of Boss's amp-voicing lineup.
The circuit models the interaction between a combo amp's preamp and speaker, including the power supply sag that happens when the amp runs out of headroom. The result is a more dynamic, responsive overdrive than a typical clipping circuit produces. Touch sensitivity is the priority: play gently for clean tones, dig in for crunch.
Level, Tone, and Drive controls. At 45mA, the processing draws more than a simple analog overdrive. The tone character sits in vintage Fender/Vox territory: bright, chimey clean tones that break up into warm crunch.
For players who want their overdrive pedal to feel like a cranked combo amp rather than a clipping circuit. The BC-2 prioritizes dynamics and feel over raw gain.
