BF-3 Flanger
Modern flanger with Ultra mode for extreme jet-plane sweeps and Gate/Pan tricks.
The BF-3 replaced the beloved BF-2 in 2002, adding momentary flanging, stereo outputs, and a Gate/Pan mode that cuts the dry signal for pure flanged tone. It modernized the Boss flanger while keeping the core sweep intact.
Multiple modes: Standard, Ultra (extreme flanging), Gate/Pan (dry signal cut), and Momentary (flanger engages only while footswitch is held). The Momentary mode is a performance tool: tap the switch for a quick jet-plane swoosh, then release to return to dry signal.
Manual, Depth, Rate, and Resonance controls plus mode selection. Stereo outputs for spatial flanging. At 40mA it draws more than the BF-2. The Ultra mode pushes the flanging deeper than the BF-2 could achieve.
The BF-3 offers more features than the BF-2 at the cost of moving from analog BBD to digital processing. Players who prefer the BF-2's warm analog character still hunt for the original, but the BF-3's Momentary and Gate modes provide genuine creative functionality.
