DA-2 Adaptive Distortion
Adaptive distortion adjusting EQ and gain response based on your playing dynamics and volume.
The DA-2 Adaptive Distortion uses MDP (Multi-Dimensional Processing) to dynamically adjust its tone based on your playing. Hit a chord and it tightens up; play a single-note lead and it opens up with more sustain. Released in 2012 as part of Boss's Adaptive series.
The adaptive circuit responds to both playing dynamics and note density. Power chords get a tighter, more defined distortion. Single notes get more gain and sustain. The transition between these states is seamless, happening faster than you can consciously notice.
Level, Tone, and Distortion controls. The simplicity of the control layout belies the processing happening underneath. At 45mA, it draws more than typical analog distortions due to the digital DSP engine.
An interesting concept that appeals to players who switch between rhythm and lead without wanting to change their distortion settings. The DA-2 essentially tries to give you two different distortion voices that switch automatically based on how you play.
