DS-1X Distortion
Next-gen DS-1 with MDP tech preserving pick attack and note clarity at any gain.
The DS-1X applies Boss's Multi-Dimensional Processing (MDP) technology to distortion, analyzing the input signal in real time and adjusting the gain, EQ, and dynamics to preserve note definition at any distortion level. Released in 2014 as part of the X-series alongside the OD-1X and BD-2X.
MDP is the key differentiator. Where traditional distortion circuits compress and blur notes as gain increases, the DS-1X maintains individual note clarity even in full chords at high gain settings. Each string stays defined in a way that conventional distortion circuits can't achieve.
Level, Low, High, and Distortion controls. The separate Low and High EQ controls replace the single Tone knob, providing more precise tonal shaping. At 45mA, it draws significantly more than the analog DS-1 (4mA) due to the digital processing.
The DS-1X is aimed at players who want high-gain distortion without sacrificing note separation. It's not trying to be the classic DS-1; it's using modern DSP to solve the fundamental limitation of analog distortion circuits.
