MD-2 Mega Distortion
High-gain distortion with Tone and Bottom controls for scooped metal tones. The extreme Boss dirt.
The MD-2 Mega Distortion targets the low-tuned, high-gain metal tones that emerged in the late 90s and early 2000s. Released in 2004, it features an extended bass response and a dual-stage gain circuit designed for seven-string guitars and drop tunings.
A Bottom control adjusts the low-frequency response independently from the Tone knob, letting you add tight low-end punch without muddying the midrange. The Gain Boost control adds a second stage of gain on top of the main Distortion control, enabling extreme saturation levels.
Five controls: Level, Tone, Bottom, Dist, and Gain Boost. The Bottom and Gain Boost controls are the distinguishing features; without them, the MD-2 would be just another high-gain distortion. At 18mA, it's still in analog territory.
Designed for modern metal players who found the MT-2 too mid-focused and the HM-2 too idiosyncratic. The MD-2 provides a more conventional high-gain metal sound with the low-end extension that down-tuned guitars demand.
