The RC-20XL expanded Boss's loop station line into the twin-pedal format, offering 16 minutes of recording, 11 phrase memories, and two footswitches for more intuitive loop control. The XL suffix indicated the expanded feature set over the original RC-20.
Two footswitches simplify the record/overdub/play workflow: one handles recording and overdubbing, the other controls playback and stop. This eliminates the sequential-press confusion of single-footswitch loopers. Eleven phrase memories store loops, and a Guide feature provides tempo reference.
Level, Guide Level, and phrase selection controls. At 85mA in the twin-pedal format. The two-footswitch design makes the RC-20XL significantly more intuitive for live looping than any compact looper.
The RC-20XL was the mid-range loop station before the RC-30 and RC-500 expanded the format further. For players who outgrew the single-footswitch limitations but didn't need the RC-300's complexity.
