ST-2 Power Stack
Power Stack amp modeling from clean to high-gain using COSM. Full amp sound from a stompbox.
The ST-2 Power Stack simulates a cranked amp stack, aiming to deliver the sound and feel of a high-gain amplifier pushed to its limits. Released in 2011, it uses Boss's analog modeling to recreate the interaction between a preamp and power amp under load.
The Sound control morphs between British-voiced (Marshall-like) and American-voiced (Mesa-like) amp characteristics. This single knob replaces what would normally be two separate amp channels, providing a continuous blend between the two gain voicings.
Level, Bass, Treble, Gain, and Sound controls. The Sound knob is the selling point: turn it left for British crunch, right for American saturation, or park it in the middle for a hybrid. At 36mA, it runs in the analog domain.
The ST-2 is an amp-in-a-box for players who can't or won't run their amps at stage volume. It's designed to go direct or into a clean amp and provide the feeling of a pushed stack without the volume.
