The TE-2 doesn't try to model a real delay. Instead, it creates an ambient wash that blurs the line between delay, reverb, and freeze effect. Part of Boss's 'Make Noise' series that emphasized experimental sounds over traditional effects.
The Tera Echo effect layers your dry signal with a shimmering cloud of repeats that sustain and build over time. It's not quite a reverb, not quite a delay, and not quite a freeze effect: it's somewhere in the intersection of all three. Feedback builds a wall of ambient sound that decays naturally when you stop playing.
Tone, Level, Feedback, and S. Time (sustain time) controls. The S. Time parameter determines how long the ambient wash sustains. Short settings create a subtle halo around notes; long settings build massive ambient soundscapes. At 53mA it's efficient for the DSP it runs.
The TE-2 was ahead of its time when it launched in 2014. The ambient/shoegaze pedal explosion that followed made its approach more relevant than ever. Players who want to create atmosphere without stacking multiple reverb and delay pedals together.
