Impossible Colors
Transformer-coupled fuzz covering overdrive to splattery fuzz with octave and horn-like tones.
Baltimore Sonic Research Institute (BSRI Audio) considers Impossible Colors their ultimate fuzz—a single pedal covering everything from overdrive through distortion into totally compressed, splattery fuzz with hints of octave, ghost tones, and surprisingly accurate horn emulation. The transformer-coupled input stage emulates both single coil and humbucker pickups for maximum flexibility. Unique among BSRI products, it uses vintage transistors sourced globally during months of development to achieve its complex blend of tones. Controls include Volume (with ample boost above unity), Attack (input gain from light boost to heavy clipping), Texture (adjusts voltage to alter dynamic range and clipping character), and Voice (a tilt EQ combining low pass and high pass filters). The Range switch selects clear or glitchy tones; the Depth switch chooses frequency ranges from tight to horn-like suboctave effects.
