Knight School Synth
Square-wave synth pedal with pulse width modulation—from nasal lead tones to deep fat drones.
The Catalinbread Knight School Synth generates square-wave tones with pulse width modulation. The Pulse knob changes the square wave's duty cycle—fully counter-clockwise produces narrow, nasal, high-pitched tones; clockwise expands to deep, fat sounds. LFO controls the rate of automatic pulse width modulation, sweeping the wave shape continuously.
A 4.7uF capacitor governs the LFO range, keeping modulation rates in musically useful territory. The square wave tracking follows your input pitch, so it works best with clean single-note lines. Runs on 9V DC at 0.5mA minimum.
Part of Catalinbread's affordable Knight School series. It's a genuinely unique effect—not a fuzz pretending to be a synth, but actual pulse width modulation of a square wave oscillator. The results range from vintage synth lead sounds to wobbling sub-bass textures.
