SideArm Overdrive
Tube Screamer reimagining with tilt EQ, inductor mids control at 720Hz, and expanded gain range.
The Catalinbread SideArm Overdrive takes the 1979 Tube Screamer as a starting point, then reworks nearly every aspect of the circuit. The gain range extends far beyond the original in both directions, the simple tone control becomes a tilt EQ centered at 1kHz, and an inductor-style Mids control operates at 720Hz, the classic TS mid-hump frequency.
Four controls: Drive covers everything from clean boost to heavy saturation, Tone tilts the EQ (up boosts highs and cuts lows, down does the opposite), Mids boosts or scoops the 720Hz band independently, and Volume sets output. The reworked clipping arrangement and expanded frequency control make it far more versatile than the green pedal it descends from.
The SideArm keeps the Tube Screamer's core appeal, the way it pushes an amp into musical breakup, while solving the complaints players have had for forty years: not enough gain range, too much mid-hump, too dark.
