StarCrash Fuzz
Silicon Fuzz Face derivative with no fuzz knob, Bias voltage starve, and Low-Cut filter.
The Catalinbread StarCrash Fuzz is a silicon Fuzz Face derivative built on a deliberate design choice: there is no fuzz knob. Catalinbread removed it because 95% of players run it dimed anyway. The fuzz is always on full, and you control cleanup with your guitar's volume knob, the way Hendrix did.
Three controls replace the traditional Volume/Fuzz layout: Volume sets output, Bias starves the second transistor's voltage from normal operating point (noon) to sputtery, gated dying-battery textures (maxed out), and Low-Cut is a high-pass filter sweeping from 40Hz to 500Hz, tightening the low end for amps that get flubby with fuzz.
Two silicon transistors in the classic Fuzz Face topology, with the Bias knob giving you deliberate access to the dying-battery effect that players historically achieved by accident. The Low-Cut filter solves the bass problem that makes many Fuzz Faces unusable with humbuckers or larger amps.
