STS-88

The Catalinbread STS-88 combines a flanger and reverb in a single enclosure. Depth controls the LFO amplitude (flange intensity), Rate sets the LFO speed from 0.077Hz to approximately 6Hz, Mix blends wet and dry signals, and Reverb adjusts the decay time of the reverb engine. Internal trimmers provide gain adjustment and a buffer switch.

The flanger and reverb interact—the modulated signal feeds into the reverb, creating textures that range from subtle movement with a touch of space to deep, swirling washes. Running at 100mA minimum on 9–18V DC, the digital processing has enough headroom for clean operation at higher input levels.

The combination makes sense for players who want both effects but don't want to dedicate two pedal slots. The interaction between flanger and reverb produces sounds neither effect achieves alone—particularly effective for ambient and atmospheric playing.
