Tars
JFET/silicon fuzz with MS-20-style LM13700 low-pass filter and expression input.
Collision Devices is a French pedal builder creating ambient and experimental effects, with all products designed, assembled, and tested by hand in their workshop. TARS stands for 'This Audio Reached Singularity.'
TARS combines the fuzz from the Black Hole Symmetry with a filter inspired by the Korg MS-20. The fuzz section features a JFET transistor input stage followed by silicon gain and clipping stages. The LM13700-based low-pass filter sweeps from 15Hz to 44kHz.
Controls include Gain, Master, CutOff fader, Resonance, and LPF VOL (VCA output level). Toggle switches select 2-pole (-12dB/octave) or 4-pole (-24dB/octave) filtering, add unfiltered fuzz signal, and choose serial or parallel routing. Expression/CV input controls cutoff with the fader setting minimum value.
Specs: 9V DC negative center, 150mA max current, 1 MOhm input/100 KOhm output impedance, 120 x 90mm, 150g. 1.5mm aluminum enclosure. Lifetime warranty. Completely built in France.
