Ivan Mazepa
Soviet Poltava fuzz recreation with NOS KT315A/GT310B transistors and switchable tone stack.
Drunk Beaver is a Polish pedal company founded by Ukrainian builder Vitalii Bobrov. The Ivan Mazepa honors the legendary Ukrainian Hetman while resurrecting a uniquely Soviet fuzz circuit.
This hybrid silicon/germanium fuzz recreates the fuzz section of the rare Soviet Poltava Fuzz-Wah using original NOS transistors: Si KT315A/B and Ge GT310B. Unlike Fuzz Face or Tone Bender designs, the Poltava has its own topology with lower noise than the vintage originals. A toggle switches between the classic Poltava tone stack and a Big Muff-style alternative.
Creatively named controls: Greatness (volume, with more on tap than vintage fuzzes), Resistance (gain, with the original's internal trimmer point around 1-2 o'clock), Diplomacy (tone balance), and Liberty (second-stage bias for character changes, noon matches the original). Draws 10mA from 9V DC center-negative.
