Blower Box
LM386 bass distortion with separate high and low EQ boosts. Doom-ready grind that stays tight.
IdiotBox Effects builds unorthodox pedals in Portland, Oregon with a penchant for movie references and massive tones. Founded by Matt Shea, the company has earned a devoted following among bass players and doom metal guitarists who need serious low-end destruction.
The Blower Box takes an unconventional approach to bass distortion by building around the LM386 amplifier chip rather than traditional overdrive circuits. This gives it a unique character that maintains clarity and depth even at high gain settings, keeping your bass audible in the mix rather than turning to mush.
Four controls shape the sound: Volume sets output level, Distortion controls gain intensity, High adds or cuts treble for snap or smoothness, and Low boosts or cuts bass frequencies. The EQ section is particularly useful, letting you dial in massive low-end beef or tighten things up for faster passages.
The compact 125B enclosure runs on 9-18V and draws only 5mA, making it pedalboard-friendly despite its huge sound. True bypass keeps your signal clean when disengaged.
