3 Series Tape Delay
Tape delay simulation spanning Les Paul to Space Echo. Warm repeats with tape speed and wow/flutter.
JHS built the 3 Series Tape Delay to honor the evolution of tape echo from Les Paul's dual-recorder experiments in the 1940s through iconic units like the Echoplex EP-1 and Roland Space Echo. Those machines defined delay sounds before digital took over, offering warm repeats with natural degradation and mechanical character.
The circuit simulates tape speed variation, wow and flutter, and the tonal darkening of each repeat as it passes through aging tape heads. Mix blends dry and delayed signals. The tape speed control simulates faster or slower motor speeds, changing both delay time and tonal character. The toggle likely adds modulation depth or switches between tape machine types.
At 75mA, it matches the Oil Can Delay's power draw. Built in Kansas City. Classic tape delay without the tape maintenance.
