PackRat
Nine RAT distortion variants from 1979 Big Box through Deucetone and Dirty RAT mods.
JHS approached the PackRat the same way they built the Bonsai and Muffuletta—by creating authentic analog circuits for every significant variant rather than digital modeling. The rotary selector clicks through forty years of RAT evolution, from the original 1979 Big Box through boutique modifications that command ridiculous prices.
The digital runway system directs 261 components through 40 individual switches, changing topology, diode types, and filter characteristics for each mode. Positions include OG Big Box, White Face, Turbo, Dirty, LA Metal, Landmine, Deucetone Rat, and BRAT variants. Geiger Counter adds a ninth mode based on the rarer germanium-equipped version.
Volume, Distortion, and Filter controls mirror the classic RAT layout. The Filter knob is a low-pass design—counterclockwise brightens, clockwise darkens. Artists from Kurt Cobain to David Gilmour to Jeff Beck relied on RAT circuits. The PackRat delivers all of them without hunting down originals.
