Volture
Voltage sag utility for dying-battery fuzz tones. Adjusts 9V-18V input down to 1.25V output.
JHS designed the Volture to democratize the dying-battery technique that classic rock innovators used to discover legendary fuzz tones. The device sits between your power supply and any fully analog pedal, precisely reducing voltage from 9V-18V input down to as low as 1.25V output.
Lowering voltage creates gated, distorted, possibly glitchy but always sputtery fuzz sounds that defined vintage recordings. The technique was impractical—you'd need to drain batteries or chill circuits to find ideal tones. The Volture makes it precise and repeatable.
The circuit works with pedals under 50mA draw, using industry-standard 2.1mm power supply cables. Input: 9VDC-18VDC (center negative). Output: adjustable 7.5VDC down to 1.25VDC. At 25mA draw (10mA additional when active), it's a utility device that unlocks tonal variations in overdrives and distortions beyond just fuzz. Compact: 3.6" × 1.5" × 1".
