VCR
Ryan Adams signature Volume-Chorus-Reverb. Three eighties effects with CE-2 chorus and hall reverb.
JHS collaborated with Ryan Adams and his PaxAM record label to create the VCR, a pedal that recreates classic eighties rack effects tailored to Adams' specifications. The circuit combines volume boost, swirling chorus, and hall reverb—three effects that defined the decade's shimmering production aesthetic. Each effect runs independently with dedicated controls.
The chorus draws inspiration from the Boss CE-2, delivering vintage swirl with a unique control scheme: increasing the knob speeds up modulation while decreasing depth, and vice versa, creating dynamic movement across the range. Hall reverb provides period-correct decay from subtle wash to fully wet ambient. The volume boost pushes low-wattage amps into breakup or adds clean headroom.
Three one-knob controls (Volume, Chorus, Reverb) with individual mini toggles engage each effect. A single true-bypass footswitch activates the entire pedal. Bass-cut slider adds tonal shaping. At 100mA draw, it powers all three effects simultaneously. Measures 3.65" × 4.65" × 1.2". Eighties rack tones without the rack.
