Fire Red Fuzz
BJF original fuzz design with JFET output stage. Big Muff topology with unique "diode trick" dynamics.
The Fire Red Fuzz is Björn Juhl's original fuzz design, not a modified Fuzz Face or vintage clone. The circuit follows Big Muff topology but employs a "JFET diode trick" that fundamentally changes dynamics and feel, plus a JFET output stage for different character.
The Tone control deserves special attention. Specifically designed for extreme versatility, it moves from mellow fuzz through slight mid-scoop to thin bright fuzz. This range makes it probably the most progressive Muff variant available, far beyond typical resistor-and-cap swaps.
Silicon-based circuit with elements some describe as a "unique blend of silicon and germanium characteristics." Compressed, deep effect provides equal sustain across the entire fretboard. Works with both single-coils and humbuckers without adjustment.
True bypass switching. Standard 9V power with center-negative polarity. Available in both PCB and hand-wired versions. The original circuit rather than another Fuzz Face derivative makes this worth investigating for fuzz enthusiasts.
