Blues Breaker
The original 1991 Bluesbreaker. Transparent overdrive that became a modern legend.
The original Bluesbreaker pedal from 1991 became one of the most cloned circuits in overdrive history. Its transparent, amp-like character inspired countless boutique builders including the Analogman King of Tone.
The circuit provided what Marshall called "amp-in-a-box" character: touch-sensitive, cleaning up with volume control, and pushing into creamy saturation when driven. The voicing captured Marshall amp feel in pedal format.
Two knobs for Drive and Tone kept operation simple. The pedal found fans who wanted Marshall character without needing a cranked amp. It was discontinued in 1999 but its influence continues.
John Mayer's use of King of Tone (a Bluesbreaker derivative) brought renewed attention to the circuit. The original Marshall Bluesbreaker pedals now command premium vintage prices.
