Black Math
NYC Big Muff variant inspired by early 2000s Fran Blanche-designed reissues with built-in pre-fuzz boost for compressed, scooped Detroit garage rock tones, featuring internal mids control and Blowout switch.
Black Math began as Alec Breslow's passion project, inspired by early 2000s Detroit garage rock and the NYC Big Muff reissues those bands used. The early 2000s NYC reissue designed by Fran Blanche had more compressed and scooped sound than later versions. Breslow's circuit features a built-in boost hitting the front-end of the Muff circuit internally, designed to be blown out, compressed, and versatile with huge tonal sweep. Internal mids control adjusts the amount of midrange dip or boost, and the Blowout switch adds additional saturation. Gain, Tone, and volume controls provide external adjustment. Powered by standard 9V center-negative, the Black Math delivers aggressive fuzz suitable for garage rock, doom, and anywhere massive NYC Muff tones are desired.
