Civil War era Big Muff recreation with mids boost, bass cut, and Stock/Scoop mode switching.
The PastFX Patriarch is a recreation and expansion of the Buffalo FX Patriot, itself based on the "Civil War" era Russian Big Muff circuit. Unlike a typical overdrive, this is a booming Muff-style fuzz with dynamic sustain and enhanced tone-shaping controls.
Five controls shape the sound: Level sets output volume, Sustain controls the amount of fuzz and sustain, Tone adjusts the frequency balance, Mids Boost (clockwise activation) pushes midrange presence beyond the typical Muff scoop, and Lows Cut (clockwise activation) tightens the low end. An external switch selects between Stock mode (faithful MKII recreation) or Scoop mode (mid-scooped character). An internal micro switch provides additional EQ shaping options.
The circuit is voiced with a naturally mid-present disposition compared to typical Muff circuits, delivering booming low end, cutting lead tones, and jaw-dropping sustain. True bypass, dimmable LED. Requires 9VDC center-negative power drawing under 10mA. Input impedance: 1 Megohm. Handmade in Brisbane, Australia.
