Violet Vibe
1968 Univibe recreation with NOS 2SC transistors, greenie caps, and optional expression control.
Rick Weaver based the Violet Vibe on a pair of 1968 Univibes, combining the best elements of vintage-style vibes with modern component selection. The full-size exact circuit board layout uses NOS 2SC828 and 2SC539 transistors (the original spec), along with NOS Japanese C2-V bulbs and top-tier photocells that rival the originals. Greenie Mylar tone caps, Xicon VX electrolytic caps, and carbon comp resistors complete the vintage-accurate signal path.
Running on 18V DC center-negative power provides all the headroom you could ask for, preventing the voltage sag issues that plagued original units. The Level, Intensity, and Speed controls, combined with footswitchable Chorus and Vibrato modes, let you conjure Hendrix, Trower, and Gilmour tones with ease. An optional Speed Pedal jack adds hands-free rate control via external expression pedal for dynamic swells and tempo-synced pulsing.
True bypass with Alpha pots ensures quiet operation and signal integrity. The Violet Vibe delivers authentic vintage Univibe throb and shimmer without the unreliability, noise, and inconsistency of 50-year-old originals. Each unit is handcrafted to exacting standards, marrying period-correct component choices with modern build quality.
