The Shins Music BMP-1 Bass Master Preamp CTM is meticulously designed outboard preamp that reproduces legendary sound of vintage Fender Bassman amplifiers without using vacuum tubes. Created by Tokyo-based builder Shin Suzuki, this pedal employs discrete solid-state circuitry to capture thick, punchy character and natural compression of iconic Bassman preamps from 1970s. Circuit design pays homage to Leo Fender's influential 3-knob tone stack, which has been copied countless times throughout music electronics history and even served as template for Marshall JTM45.
BMP-1 features comprehensive EQ controls including Bass, Mid, and Treble knobs for precise tonal shaping, along with Master Volume control. Switchable drive section adds versatility with dedicated Drive Gain (DRV) and Drive Volume (D. VOL) controls, allowing bassists to dial in everything from pristine clean tones to natural overdrive. Because distortion is achieved through circuit's inherent characteristics rather than separate clipping stage, clean and drive sound images remain remarkably similar, maintaining tonal consistency across pedal's range. Custom versions (CTM) include additional features such as input attenuation switches and drive EQ selection switches for even greater control.
Bass Master Preamp delivers simple, pure, and raw tone that made Bassman famous, with fat and sparkling character that works equally well for bass guitar and can even be used for guitar applications. Wide-range sound combines thick, rich low end with fast response and articulation. This pedal has gained recognition among professional bassists including Pino Palladino and Kazuki Arai of King Gnu. Input impedance is 1MΩ with output impedance of 50kΩ, ensuring compatibility with various instruments and amplifiers. Like all Shins Music products, each unit is handmade in Tokyo with carefully selected components.
