The Silktone Overdrive+ is wholly original circuit design that sets itself apart in crowded overdrive market through its unique architecture and unconventional design philosophy. Created by designer Charles Henry—self-proclaimed "hater of drive pedals"—Overdrive+ uses sophisticated combination of JFETs, op-amps, and diodes to craft wide variety of dirty tones. Circuit's most distinctive technical feature is its op-amp stage, which operates at approximately 30 volts for gain and buffering purposes. This elevated voltage ensures op-amp never clips, even when another pedal is stacked in front of it, meaning all clipping and distortion character comes exclusively from carefully voiced JFET stages and diode configurations.
Pedal's control layout includes standard Volume, Tone, and Gain knobs, supplemented by two mini-switches and unique boost circuit. First mini-switch provides bass cut option, tightening overall sound for more focused, aggressive tones. Second mini-switch toggles between two clipping modes: symmetric clipping delivers smoother, more compressed overdrive tones, while asymmetric clipping produces more natural, textured, and dynamic distortion. These switches allow you to fine-tune pedal's character to match your playing style and musical context.
Overdrive+'s most distinctive feature is its Strangle/Raw Boost circuit, accessible via dedicated footswitch. This colorfully voiced dirty boost adds substantial gain and significant amount of second harmonic distortion to your signal. In Strangle mode, boost introduces wah-like inductor filter into mix, delivering heavily accentuated midrange frequencies that create cocked-wah tonal signature—perfect for cutting through dense mixes or achieving vocal-like lead tones. In Raw mode, inductor filter is bypassed, providing full-range boosting across frequency spectrum. Overdrive+ covers impressive tonal range, from subtle low-gain always-on tonal enhancement that preserves your core tone while adding richness and complexity, all way to ripping high-gain lead tones that push into distortion and fuzz territory.
