Marvellous Engine
RAT-inspired distortion with dual clipping stages and Voice control for smooth saturation with British-amp-style high-gain.
The Marvellous Engine represents Snake Oil Fine Instruments' collaboration between Rob Chapman and Mythos Pedals' Zach Broyles, taking immortal ProCo RAT circuit topology as reference point while expanding its capabilities through thoughtful circuit modifications. While fundamental architecture pays homage to RAT's smooth saturation characteristics, Marvellous Engine distinguishes itself through its unique Voice control, which engages second clipping stage. This addition transforms pedal from simple RAT clone into more versatile gain platform capable of milder overdrive textures through wild distortion with exceptional articulation across spectrum.
Frequency response is notably more full-range than traditional RAT's midrange-focused voice, though it retains similar emphasis on choppy mids that makes it particularly effective for old-school metal riffing and classic rock rhythm tones. Circuit design takes inspiration from classic higher-gain British amplifiers, making Marvellous Engine equally at home in front of clean or already-driven amplifiers. Four-knob control set—Volume, Gain, Voice, and Tone—provides comprehensive tone shaping without overwhelming complexity. Built in UK with high-quality components and featuring true bypass switching.
