The Snouse BlackBox Overdrive 2 represents significant evolution of original BlackBox design, transforming simple three-knob overdrive into comprehensive tone-shaping tool. This hand-wired, 100% analog pedal features three switchable circuit modes accessible via internal DIP switches: Standard (Hi-Gain), Classic (Lo-Gain), and Clean Boost, effectively making it three pedals in one enclosure.
At heart of BlackBox 2 is its proprietary tube-emulating variable JFET preamp boost control, which can push front end of pedal into searing drive that melts into singing, harmonic-rich feedback. External controls include Gain, Tone, Volume, Presence, and pre-gain Boost knobs, providing extensive tonal sculpting capabilities. Internal Bright/Smooth voicing switches allow further customization of pedal's frequency response. Presence control replaces original BluesBreaker's low-pass filter, offering chimey, bell-like bite without harshness—inspired by presence controls found on classic JTM amplifiers.
Pedal delivers extremely dynamic and vocal overdrive with just touch of compression and that amp-on-the-edge feel. It responds beautifully to playing dynamics—playing softly or rolling back your guitar's volume cleans up signal, while digging in produces hot tube growl. JFET boost provides fatter signal and more drive without becoming flabby, maintaining clarity even at higher gain settings. Strongly recommended for live/stage musicians and studio/session musicians, BlackBox 2 excels with small amps or big, bassy amps at rehearsal and stage volumes.
