Orbiter Fuzz
Germanium fuzz pedal inspired by 1966 Arbiter Fuzz with adjustable bias control for tones ranging from sputtering lo-fi rasp to smooth sustaining distortion.
The SoloDallas Orbiter Fuzz builds upon legacy of 1966 Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face, featuring matched pair of germanium transistors to recreate classic vintage fuzz tones that defined rock music. Circuit pays homage to original germanium-based designs that produced warmer, creamier, and smoother fuzz textures compared to later silicon versions.
Pedal features three main controls that provide exceptional tonal versatility: Fuzz knob controls overall amount of fuzz by shifting signal's waveform from triangular to square; Gain knob increases signal input for smooth, harmonically rich clipping; and innovative Bias control regulates voltage to transistors. Bias control is particularly powerful - lower voltage settings produce lo-fi, raspy, sputtering fuzz reminiscent of The Black Keys, while higher voltage settings deliver smooth sustain approaching distortion territory with clarity similar to "American Woman" era fuzz tones. Internal "Sweet Spot" mini-potentiometer allows precise impedance matching for different pickup configurations.
Orbiter features unique power circuit that internally converts modern wall power to emulate draw of vintage carbon zinc battery, ensuring authentic vintage response characteristics. This attention to detail extends to construction, with durable reinforced steel enclosure finished in vintage metallic blue hammered coating that's both compact and pedalboard-friendly. Whether seeking sputtering, gated fuzz of garage rock or smooth, singing sustain of classic rock leads, Orbiter Fuzz delivers full spectrum of germanium fuzz tones with modern reliability and control flexibility that vintage pedals could never achieve.
