The Schaffer Replica Classic
Two-knob compander/booster recreating Schaffer-Vega wireless system circuitry that shaped AC/DC's Back in Black tone, delivering up to 30dB of midrange-rich boost.
The SoloDallas Schaffer Replica Classic (TSR) is meticulously accurate recreation of audio circuitry from legendary Schaffer-Vega Diversity System wireless units, famously used by Angus Young both live and in studio during recording of AC/DC's iconic albums including "Back in Black," "Highway to Hell," and "For Those About To Rock." This compander/booster pedal captures "secret ingredient" of Angus Young's guitar tone - wireless system that used ingenious compression and expansion ("companding") techniques combined with line buffering to create impressive dynamics, clarity, and over 100dB of dynamic range.
TSR Classic features just two controls in keeping with original design: Input knob controls TX10 transmitter circuit gain, and Output knob controls 63EX receiver gain, capable of delivering up to 30dB of clean boost. Pedal is characterized by very strong midrange presence and extra headroom thanks to its 12-15V DC power supply, instantly delivering bright, complex, crunchy detail and texture associated with classic AC/DC tones without excessive distortion. Through-hole construction methods and components (as opposed to SMD in other versions) further contribute to pedal's authentic vintage character.
Beyond "instant Angus" capability, Schaffer Replica Classic provides noticeable sonic enhancement for any rig or musical style. Compander circuit naturally compresses your signal during quiet passages while expanding it during louder sections, creating remarkable sustain and presence. Buffered output ensures consistent tone delivery even with long cable runs or complex pedal chains, while midrange emphasis helps guitars cut through dense band mixes without requiring excessive volume. TSR Classic represents SoloDallas founder Filippo "SoloDallas" Olivieri's culmination of over 30 years researching Angus Young's tone, working directly with Ken Schaffer himself to ensure circuit accuracy.
