SR-01
Versatile two-stage transistor saturation device ranging from subtle overdrive to full-blown fuzz, with bias starving capabilities and full-frequency circuit design for guitar, bass, and synths.
The Superlunar SR-01 Analog Saturation Device is a wonderfully distinctive multi-gain pedal that defies traditional categorization. Designed by Antonio Carusone in the Hudson Valley, this pedal takes inspiration from legendary black panel amplifiers pushed into destructive overdrive, translating that aggressive, compressed saturation into a compact stompbox format. The SR-01 employs a two-stage transistor circuit with soft-clipping silicon diodes that blend to create everything from gentle overdrive coloration to savage fuzz annihilation.
What sets the SR-01 apart is its full-frequency audio path featuring large capacitors that preserve all low-end information, resulting in thick, warm tones that work exceptionally well with guitar, bass, synthesizers, and drum machines. The C (Compression) control adjusts the bias of the second-stage transistor - turning it clockwise progressively starves the transistor of power, creating increasingly gated, sputtery velcro fuzz textures that decay into unpredictable, lo-fi territories. The F (Filter) control provides a first-order low-pass filter, rolling off high frequencies when turned counterclockwise for darker, woolier tones. A white button engages a fixed high-pass filter that cuts low frequencies, useful for tightening up the low end in high-gain settings or for slotting into dense mixes.
The SR-01's gain structure is remarkably versatile - at low settings it functions as a transparent boost or mild overdrive that enhances dynamics and harmonics; at medium settings it delivers creamy distortion with excellent note separation; at maximum settings it unleashes unhinged fuzz chaos with octave overtones and harmonic complexity. The pedal is housed in a unique enclosure with custom artwork, reflecting Superlunar's aesthetic attention to detail.
Priced at 89, the SR-01 represents a premium offering for players seeking a single pedal that can cover an enormous range of saturated tones. The combination of bias control, filter shaping, and high-pass switching makes it far more versatile than traditional single-purpose gain pedals, while the full-frequency design ensures it performs equally well across different instruments and musical contexts.
