Elementary
Simplified tube preamp based on early 1970s Hiwatt DR103, cleaner and more flexible than the original amplifier circuit.
The Elementary takes inspiration from the legendary early 1970s Hiwatt DR103 amplifier, but Sushi Box simplified and refined the design to create a cleaner, more flexible preamp that works exceptionally well for both bass and guitar. Features Gain, Master Volume, and 3-band passive EQ section. The passive EQ has inherent mid-scoop characteristic, meaning the pedal is not flat with all controls at noon.
Excels at delivering warm, clean tones with excellent headroom, but rolling up the gain control reveals delicious tube overdrive character that retains clarity and punch even when pushed hard. The 12AX7 tube runs at high voltage, providing authentic tube warmth and dynamic response. Summer 2024 revised edition incorporates film capacitors in audio path and soft-touch relay bypass switching.
One of the most popular applications is as amp replacement for gigging musicians going direct to front-of-house while maintaining killer tone. Its responsive dynamics and natural compression make it feel and sound like playing through a real tube amplifier. Features top-mounted jacks and requires 9-12VDC power supply capable of at least 400mA.
